31 Apps awarded the Learning App Quality Label
As part of the 8-point plan for digital teaching, the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF) introduced a quality label for learning apps to help teachers and parents select innovative and educational high-quality learning apps.
Since June 2023, 31 new learning apps have been integrated into the certification programme. They have been selected from 114 evaluations and are based on feedback from 2626 students. This brings the total number of certified learning apps in Austria to 66.
Jakob Calice, Managing Director of the OEAD and Board of the Innovation Foundation for Education, stressed the importance of this process: “Quality assurance is one of the entry keys for education in the classroom of the future. The Digital Mobile Learning Applications Quality Label provides a quality certificate that helps teachers, students and parents to navigate among the learning apps on the market. This is because they can rely on a standardised evaluation and certification procedure.’
From 1 to 30 September 2023, app developers and bidders are invited to submit their learning apps for the certification process 2023/2024.
This year’s certified apps received their certificates on 1 June 2023 at an event at HLMW Michelbeuern. The ceremony was carried out by Martin Bauer, Head of Group of the BMBWF, Teresa Torzicky, Head of the ISB Registry, and Franz Gramlinger, Head of the OEAD Reference Centre for Quality in Education and Training.
The certification process started in autumn 2020 and has been continuously developed since then. It was developed and implemented by ÖAD, Austria’s Agency for Education and Internationalisation, in cooperation with the Innovation Foundation for Education (ISB) as partner and funding provider.
With the introduction of the quality label for learning apps and the continuous development of the certification procedure, Austria is taking an important step towards digitalisation in education. The quality label provides teachers, students and parents with reliable quality certification, thus supporting modern and high-quality teaching in Austrian schools.
